Mahj by Irene
Hi, I’m Irene — founder of New England Mahj Co. 🀄
My mahjong journey began when my mother-in-law introduced me to the game, and I was immediately hooked. What started as curiosity quickly became a passion, and before long I found myself searching for places to play and connect with other mahjong enthusiasts.
That search revealed something surprising: in many parts of Connecticut and New England, opportunities to play mahjong outside of senior centers can be hard to find. I knew there had to be others looking for the same thing—a welcoming community, beautiful venues, and a fun place to gather around the table.
That’s why I created New England Mahj Co.
As a former elementary school teacher and current school administrator, bringing people together and creating engaging experiences has always been at the heart of what I do. Today, New England Mahj Co. offers beginner Mahjong lessons for those just getting started, as well as welcoming open play events for players of all experience levels—from those who have recently completed a Mahjong 101 course to seasoned players looking for their next game. Whether you're learning your very first tile or searching for your next Mahj community, there's a seat at our table.
Our events are anything but ordinary. Instead of gathering in traditional settings, we bring mahjong to breweries, inns, wineries, restaurants, and other unique destinations throughout Connecticut and New England. Whether you're looking to sharpen your skills, meet new friends, or simply enjoy an afternoon of mahjong in a beautiful setting, you'll find a seat at our table.
We're building the mahjong community we couldn't seem to find—and we'd love for you to be part of it.
Let's Mahj! 💕
