Ready to learn the game everyone is talking about? Join New England Mahj Co. at Mindset Winery & Lounge for Mahjong 101—an evening designed for complete beginners who are ready to learn, laugh, and discover why mahjong has become their new favorite night out.
Mindset provides the perfect backdrop for learning to play. With its warm, intimate atmosphere, and modern lounge feel, this isn’t your average game night. Settle in with a glass of wine, enjoy the ambiance, and learn American Mahjong in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
During Mahjong 101, you’ll learn:
The tiles and how to identify them
How to read and navigate the 2026 National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card
How to choose a hand and begin building it
The Charleston and passing tiles
The basic rules and flow of American Mahjong
How to call and expose tiles
How to complete a winning hand and call Mahjong!
We’ll finish with guided play, so you can put everything together with an instructor there to help you every step of the way.
All mahjong sets and supplies are provided, and we’ll have a limited number of NMJL cards available to borrow.
Please arrive 10 minutes early so everyone can get settled and we can begin promptly.
Come with friends or come on your own—you’ll leave knowing the basics and ready to keep playing at a Mahjong 102 class or one of our upcoming social play events.
